For millennia, the territory near of the Dnipro and about. Khortytsia witnessed an infinite number of great historical events. One of these events is the Russian-Turkish war of 1736-1739. What caused the flooding of a large number of boats along the coastline of the island, which could not overcome the Dnipro rapids that got in the way to the Black Sea.
In 1999, the main exhibit of the museum, the Cossack gull, was raised to the surface. And after 5 years, the no less famous brigantine was lifted from the waters of the Dnipro, both vessels are witnesses of the war of the eighteenth century. In addition to the Seagull and the Brigantine, the collection contains duplicate boats and more than 30 anchors of Cossack gulls, Russian brigantines and Dutch galleys.
