Oak of Yakiv Novytskyi

просп. Соборний, 78, біля ресторану «Олександрівський повіт», Запоріжжя

The oak tree was planted at the end of the 19th century by the famous historian Yakiv Novytskyi. The height of the tree is 20 meters. This oak is one of three that the researcher planted in his yard.

Yakiv Novytskyi was engaged in the study of the Khortytsia Island, the Great Meadow, the ruins of all the Zaporizhian Sichs, and closely collaborated with Dmytro Yavornytskyi. In 1913, he founded and opened a historical museum, where he served as director until 1925 (now the Zaporizhia Regional Museum of Local Lore).

Today, the miraculously preserved oak tree continues to preserve the memory of the outstanding researcher and "father" of the history of Zaporizhia.
