The building of the Zaporizhzhia-1 Railway Station

просп. Соборний, 2, Запоріжжя

The modern building of the railway station "Zaporizhzhia-1" was opened in September 1954. It was constructed according to the project of architects from "Mostproekt": V.F. Skarzhynskyi, M. Khachaturova, H. Chernyshov. Presumably, the team of architects worked under the leadership of H. Wegman, and the sculptural composition above the central entrance of the station is the work of the Zaporizhzhia sculptor M. Khudasa.

The building is constructed on the site of the first railway station in the city, "Pivdennyi," built in 1873 during the construction of the Katerynynska railway. In 1943, during the fighting for the liberation of the city from the Nazis, the railway station building was destroyed.

The interiors of the station in the Stalinist Empire style have been preserved, representing a fusion of monumentality and symbolism. The station is a visiting card of the city, a unique place where history and modernity intertwine.
